Hate church loses tax case
I try to be objective here on the blog, but I really can't do that with Westminster Baptist Church... I won't bother repeating their beliefs, but most of you have heard of their act. This week, they lost a tax case regarding exemption of their van used to drive to and fro. The nonprofit law prof blog raises a good point that this may not necessarily have been a good ruling from a pure tax law standpoint. If we replaced the petitioner with another group, would many of us feel ok about the ruling?

Do you have any group like these guys in the U.S.?

i've started seeing their ads on buses in Toronto and I can't for the life of me figure out how they got charitable status. As far as I can tell their entire mandate is "marketing", and I can't imagine any other charity being allowed to operate like that. If it was environment, children's education, cancer research etc. they'd have to spend money on actual programs.
Bus Stop Bible Studies does not market anything. They are a ministry that "educates" the general public concerning the Christian Faith. They fully conform to Canadian Charity status.
